Our Myoferlin paper is out in Nature Communications

We show that the host protein Myoferlin is part of the late-stage vesicles that carry influenza genomes towards the cell surface, and that other enveloped RNA viruses use it too.

Influenza A virus packages its eight genome segments as viral ribonucleoproteins (vRNPs). After they leave the nucleus, those vRNPs have to travel through the cytoplasm to the plasma membrane, where new virus particles bud.

In this study we identified Myoferlin as a component of the late-stage trafficking vesicles that carry vRNPs on that journey, and found a role for it with other enveloped RNA viruses as well.

Congratulations to everyone in the group and to our collaborators at the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine.
