In June 2026, Queen’s University Belfast welcomed the European Research Council for its 105th plenary meeting, the first visit of the ERC Scientific Council to Northern Ireland.

As an ERC grantee, David hosted the fireside conversation in the University’s Great Hall with Nobel Laureate Professor Emmanuelle Charpentier and Professor Teresa Lambe OBE, a key architect of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. The evening followed a research and innovation showcase of Queen’s ERC-funded projects at One Elmwood.

ERC President Professor Maria Leptin joined guests including the UK Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser at DSIT, Professor Chris Johnson, and NI Minister Andrew Muir MLA.
