The European Research Council awarded David a Starting Grant worth over €1.5 million for a five-year project on the post-transcriptional regulation of influenza A virus RNA in infected human and avian cells.

“By exploring the mechanisms by which influenza viruses replicate inside our cells we hope to come up with some potential answers to the question: how do we prevent the next viral pandemic?”

The grant allowed David to establish The Courtney Group at the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine in 2021.
